Charges were filed today in Cleveland County district court against Oklahoma State Senator Ralph Shortey. He has three felony prostitution charges pending after being found in a Super 8 motel room with an underage male suspected of being a prostitute. An arrest warrant was issued today with a bond amount set at $100,000.
According to the police affidavit, Shortey was found along with a 17 year old male juvenile on March 9, 2017. The two had communicated using the online messaging app Kik.
Documents reveal the two had on ongoing relationship for approximately one year. A container of marijuana from a legal Colorado vendor was also found in the motel room.
Shortey had authored Oklahoma Senate Bill 512, which was designed to undo criminal justice reforms in State Questions 780 & 781 approved by Oklahoma voters in November. The state questions Shortey opposed with SB 512 reduced mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent crimes, including drug possession.
